Featured Artist:
Ghislain Caron

Possessing an exceptional talent for capturing the likeness of wildlife, Ghislain Caron is one of the most respected illustrators in his field.  A self-taught artist, Caron received his first commission at age eighteen.  Since then he has designed conservation stamps for La Fondation de la faune du Quebec, created work for Prince Phillip, Duke of Edinburgh, and published the ambitious Les Oiseaux du Quebec.  The book features over 1000 illustrations of birds and is a favourite amongst amateur ornithologists.

Featured in the gallery is a painting from 1991 which exemplifies Caron's love of birds.  He captures the serenity of a moment between mother loon and chick as they swim in a placid dark blue lake.

Conservation
Corner

In the 1930s it was discovered wood-pulp acid damaged and discoloured works on paper.  It was not until the 1980s that acid-free framing materials became standard. Many works framed before this time risk damage from acidic backings and mats
that yellow and eat away at artwork.

If you see any yellowing of your works on paper, especially around the edges of the mat, it is recommended that you reframe your works with acid-free materials before damage becomes too severe.
