 Featured Artist: Allen Sapp
Sapp grew up on Red Pheasant reserve in Saskatchewan where his favourite activities were drawing and sketching. He moved to North Battleford, Saskatchewan in 1960 to pursue a career as a professional artist.
Sapp found success in the realist tradition, depicting everyday scenes from his memories of life on the reserve. His work is considered an excellent and sensitive record of 20th century Cree culture.
The painting at the gallery is a mid-winter scene of a man returning from chopping firewood.
