 Watercolours by Rodin
Auguste Rodin (1840-1917) was a French artist most noted for his sculpture, (see "The Thinker"). He was also an accomplished painter in oils and watercolours. Many of Rodin's watercolours feature a lightness of technique and a playful eroticism. He papered the walls of his studio with images of nude woman, painted with joyous naturalism and whimsical movement. The women in Rodin's paintings seem flirtatious and amiable. Some are even engaged in sexual encounters, including several images of lesbian couples. Featured at the gallery this week are two of Rodin's spirited nude watercolours. Both are a testament to the artist's love of form, realism and movement. |
