This collection is for sale from an estate and was acquired over a ten year period from 1975 - 1985.  It features the work of several well known Six Nations artists from Ohsweken, Ontario including Jacob Thomas Jr. (see above), Richard Williams, Cleveland Sandy, Thomas Deer, Garfield Thomas, Shawn Thomas, Larry Bomberry and Vincent Bomberry.

The sculptures represent themes from the False Face ritual in which powerful beings with distorted faces are called upon for help and protection. For an encyclopedic article on False Face societies click here. 

This new collection featuring pieces carved from steatite (soapstone) complements our wooden False Face masks already on display in the gallery.

Our good friend Brian Darcy continues to brighten the gallery with new paintings of Canadian flora and fauna.
