6th Annual Feed ME Food Drive a Record-Breaking Success

Good Shepherd Food-Bank joined forces with Hannaford, WCSH6, and WLBZ2 on May 7 for the 6th Annual Feed ME Food Drive. Food-Bank staff, along with on-air talent from the TV stations, were on location at Hannaford grocery stores throughout the state to greet supporters and collect donations.

Staff at each of the four locations - Sanford, Portland, Augusta, and Bangor - reported that the drive was a huge success. Each community's outpouring of support for the mission of ending hunger in Maine was truly inspirational. In total, the Food-Bank collected over $12,000 and nearly 10,000 pounds of food - more than any previous Feed ME drive.

Many thanks for the generous support of everyone who donated to Feed ME. Along with the help of our partner agencies, we will be able to distribute 67,500 more meals to hungry Mainers this year.

Mainers Feeding Mainers Program Gears up for Summer

We are looking forward to another summer of partnering with local farmers to distribute fresh, nutritious produce to Mainers struggling with hunger. This summer, through our Mainers Feeding Mainers program, we will be purchasing products, including tomatoes, squash, beans, and much more, from 19 farms around the state. Many farms also donate surplus product throughout the season.

Fresh produce will be available to our partner agencies at all three of our distribution centers this summer. In addition, we are in the process of acquiring a "Veggie Mobile" that will pick up produce from farms and distribute it to agencies at centralized drop off locations throughout the state.

While the distribution of fresh produce always depends on how successful the growing season is, we are excited about the prospects for Mainers Feeding Mainers this season. With the help of Maine's dedicated farmers and our partner agencies, we will be able to distribute more locally grown food this year than ever before.
