New Pantry Opening in Richmond

In Maine, we share a common belief - when our neighbors are in need, we come together to help them. And that's exactly what has happened throughout the past year in the town of Richmond.

When Richmond's Shepherd of Faith Food Pantry closed last year, many people from the town and surrounding areas came together to help their most vulnerable neighbors. Nazarene Church in Wiscasset offered to serve Richmond clients for several months last year and a pantry in Gardiner has recently stepped in to offer food, as well.

Good Shepherd Food-Bank sent its Food Mobile in August and November of 2010 and every month so far in 2011 to help meet the needs of Richmond's residents.

With these partners working together and many volunteers offering a hand, plans are in the works to open a new Richmond Food Pantry in May. The town has come on board to assist with this effort and will be providing financial support to the pantry. Thanks to many dedicated people, the town of Richmond will once again be able to provide much needed food assistance to its residents.

Spotlight On:

        New Agency Services Team Members

Cheryl Ann Jalbert is the new Vice President of Agency Services & Human Resources for Good Shepherd Food-Bank.

Cheryl Jalbert

Cheryl joined the Food-Bank in 2009 as the Director of Human Resources. She has a strong customer service background and is looking forward to growing strong partnerships with all of the agencies the Food-Bank serves. Cheryl will be reaching out and visiting agencies throughout the state to get to know you and understand the challenges we face as we work together to end hunger in Maine.

"As a native Mainer, I am so proud of this state and the can-do spirit of its people. I am grateful to be part of this strong organization and I look forward to working with you. I hope you will feel free to contact me anytime."

Cheryl and Robert Jalbert have two grown daughters, Heather and Hollie, and two young grandsons. Cheryl feels very fortunate that her entire family lives and works in Maine.

 Jeremy Hammond

Jeremy Corbally-Hammond is not actually new to Agency Services. When he started at Good Shepherd Food-Bank as an Americorps Vista in 2008, he worked in Agency Services. After his Vista year he was hired as the Volunteer Coordinator, recruiting and managing volunteers at the Auburn warehouse. After a successful year running the volunteer program, Jeremy will now serve as the Manager of Agency Services.

"I'm excited to return to Agency Services. I'm looking forward to getting out into the community and working with our member agencies across the state."

Jeremy has lived in Maine his entire life and attended the University of Maine at Farmington. He now lives in Auburn with his wife and two dogs.

Recipe of the Month

Beef Noodle Casserole

1 lb. lean ground beef

1/2 cup onion, chopped

3 quarts boiling water

2 3/4 cups noodles, uncooked

1 10 oz. can tomato soup, condensed

1 1/4 cups water

1/8 teaspoon pepper

1 cup breadcrumbs

Preheat the oven to 300 degrees.

Brown beef and onions in a hot skillet. Drain excess fat from skillet. Place water in a large saucepan; bring to a boil. Cook noodles in boiling water according to package directions; drain and set aside. Combine soup, water, and pepper. Stir soup mixture into cooked meat, then add cooked noodles. Stir gently to avoid tearing noodles.

Spoon beef noodle mixture into a 9 by 13 inch baking pan. Sprinkle bread crumbs over casserole. Bake, uncovered, for about 30 minutes.

Serves 4 (about 2 cups each)
