Help Us Match $30,000 for Nutritious Food From Maine Producers
Winter will soon be over and local food producers will once again prepare for a busy harvest season. At the Food-Bank, we are busy establishing partnerships with producers to distribute fresh, Maine food to people in need throughout the state.
We formed 18 partnerships with local producers in 2010 and distributed more than 350,000 pounds of fresh, locally grown food. With your help, we can distribute even more nutritious produce this year.
A generous Maine resident has donated $30,000 in support of the Maine Farm, Dairy, and Seafood Initiative, and is urging other Mainers to support this worthy cause. Please help us match this donation by making a gift today.
We urge everyone who would like to support Maine farmers, while also helping feed the hungry throughout the state, to donate now - your gift will be matched dollar for dollar. |

BackPack Program Helps Address Child Hunger in Portland
The Food-Bank and the Junior League of Portland have teamed up to pilot a BackPack Program aimed at addressing child hunger. Thanks to support from the Walmart Foundation, backpacks filled with food are being distributed to more than 200 students in need in the Portland area. For children who depend on school meals during the week, these backpacks provide critical nutrition during weekends and vacations.
If you're interested in learning more about this growing program, please contact Jeremy Corbally-Hammond at jhammond@gsfb.org or (207) 782-3554 ext. 1144.
