YA Not? Launch Party for Gabrielle Zevin's All These Things I've Done

Gabrielle will be in conversation with her editor, Janine O'Malley, along with a reading, Q&A and signing. In the future of Zevin's imagining, life is not as we know it: chocolate and caffeine are controlled substances, camera phones are illegal, and no one remembers what OMG means. Can you imagine? We'll be serving up contraband coffee and chocolate, alongside the discussion of teen literature, dystopias, and writing the future. Facebook RSVP encouraged.

A sudden bombing at the Atocha Station forces Adam to come out of the pharmaceutical haze he has relied on, emerge from a cloud of self-consciousness, and face reality. Lerner is a Brooklyn native and a National Book Award finalist for poetry.

An Evening with Craig Thompson (TICKETED)

WORD presents an evening with graphic novelist Craig Thompson (Blankets). Attendees will be able to meet and mingle with Thompson at a cocktail party, followed by an interview with Sarah Glidden (How to Understand Israel in 60 Days or Less), Q&A and signing. Tickets are $40, include a copy of his new novel Habibi, drinks and hors d'oeuvre. This is a Brooklyn Book Festival Bookend event, and will be limited to 50 attendees. Tickets available online, in-store, or by calling us at 718-383-0096.
Sprawling across an epic landscape of deserts, harems, and modern industrial clutter, Habibi (which means "beloved" in Arabic) tells the tale of Dodola and Zam, refugee child slaves bound to each other by chance, by circumstance, and by the love that grows between them. We follow them as their lives unfold together and apart; as they struggle to make a place for themselves in a world (not unlike our own) fueled by fear, lust, and greed; and as they discover the extraordinary depth--and frailty--of their connection.

And courtesy of the Anton Kern gallery, one lucky attendee will get a free tattoo, drawn by Shrigley and then inked by WORD's favorite tattoo shop East River Tattoo. The winner will be selected at the event by random drawing; you must be present to win. As if that weren't enough, there will also be donuts and lemonade.
