Paperback Launch for Rick Moody's

The Four Fingers of Death

From Earth to Mars, from real life to fantasy, Moody's future (the year is 2025) looks back to present-day culture and wonders where exactly we're headed. Facebook RSVP here.

Spivet) and Emily St. John Mandel (The Singer's Gun, Last Night in Montreal). Facebook RSVP here.

All events are free and open to the public unless otherwise noted.

Book groups

Book of Night Women Our book group pick for August is The Book of Night Women by Marlon James, one of Jenn's favorites. Set on a Jamaican plantation in the 1900s, it follows a group of slave women as they plan a slave revolt. James plunges you into the middle of their struggle with a plot that is riveting and surprisingly unpredictable, and characters that will take up residence in your brain. We'll discuss on Saturday, September 3 at noon. The physical book will be 10% off all month, and it's also available as a Google ebook

And as for our year of Russian literature, our classics book club pick continues to be The Brothers Karamazov by Fyodor Dostoevsky. This monster is at the top of many people's Always Meant To Read That lists; now's your chance to finally cross it off! Don't be frightened: due to its length and density, we'll be reading and discussing this book in three meetings over the summer. We'll continue with discussion of Part III on August 13, and Part IV on September 10; all discussions will be at noon. Read what you can and join us for any or all of the meetings! The book will be 10% off in-store and online until we finish it.
