What's going on at WORD?

Mr. Death
Sometimes a book tour really wears an author out.
From Danbert Nobacon's event, 10/23.

More events! We just can't help ourselves. It's a sickness. We encourage you to feed our habit, so every time you come to an event in November, we'll stamp a card for you. There will be prizes at the end of the month for those with the most stamps, so come to as many events as you can. It's a challenge!

And here's more: our events aren't limited to the store, either. We've started hosting more authors on our blog, including recent fantastic interviews with Lauren Grodstein (A Friend of the Family), David Herlihy (The Lost Cyclist), and Kim Dana Kupperman (I Just Lately Started Buying Wings). More interviews to come, so keep the blog bookmarked and treat yourself to a short author visit on your lunch break.

In a few weeks we'll be sending out our annual gift guide to try to make your holiday season a little easier (and a little more literate). Have an idea that you think everyone should know about? We'd love to include some customer recommendations in this year's guide, so email our manager Stephanie (stephanie at wordbrooklyn dot com) with the books that you can't wait to give this year.

Book Club
OutOur book club pick for November is Out by Natsuo Kirino. This is the sort of mystery that will have you on tenterhooks from the first chapter. Kirino reads like Raymond Chandler, if Chandler had been a Japanese feminist. A masterpiece of suspense.

We'll discuss Out on Wednesday, December 1st at 7:30pm, and Saturday, December 4th at noon, along with some holiday treats! All you have to do to join is read the book and show up for discussion. Out will be 10% off all month in-store and online.
