 American Craft Week
October 1-10th, 2010

What is it?
A nation-wide effort to promote American Craft and to build an awareness of its beauty, originality, and enduring handmade qualities which make it a perfect choice for gifts, wearables and decorative objects for everyday living.

Why celebrate it?  To keep our jobs in the USA.  To help keep employed the craft artists, gallery/store owners, museums, teachers of craft, and  other related occupations.  Crafts are the fabric of our Nation's history.

Who's involved?
Anyone interested in American craft. This includes individuals, small businesses and organizations from all 50 states coming together in recognition of the countless ways handmade objects enrich our daily lives and contribute to our National economy.  After all, this is our American heritage!

What has Hanson Galleries done for this effort?
Gallery owner, Donna Milstein, is on the founding committee that has worked a year putting this national celebration together.  Donna has also taught seminars nationally and locally on crafts and pushed for more Houston involvement of ACW by co-promoting with Bayou City Art Festival, Houston Center for Contemporary Craft and other stores such as The Artful Hand.

Hanson Galleries has juried and mounted two major show openings to coincide with this week long celebration.

What can you do?
As a craft-interested person, you can support our Houston events by going to some of the openings, meeting and talking to the artists, exposing a friend or young one to its beauty and workmanship, or even buying something that speaks to your tastes or your heart.  The American Craft movement needs your support to keep alive.

We have celebrated American Craft at Hanson Galleries for 33 years!
