Roman Glass Jewelry from Two Great Designers

The Roman Empire built a great civilization with renowned artistic and technological achievements. At its peak, it controlled the entire Mediterranean Sea.  The industrialization of glass, nearly 2000 years ago, is considered one of its most significant accomplishments.

Jackie Cohen
L Frank Bfly
The pioneering of glass blowing brought about a revolutionary change in the lives of the common people when glass plates, bowls and jars became everyday household items and were no longer limited to the wealthy.   As time passed, these items were broken or lost and for centuries stayed buried in mineral-rich soil.  This formed the beautiful iridescent layer of patina on the surface of the glass making each piece truly distinctive.  Due to its strategic location, archeological sites located near Jerusalem serve as the main source of the excavated glass.

These fragments or remnants of common household objects vary in shape, thickness and color and are not big or complete enough to be sent to a museum.  They make a perfect ancient material around which to design jewelry.   We have found the top two designers in the US dealing with this Roman Glass of the remote past.  Click here to see more Ido Hassman jewelry and here to see more Jackie Cohen jewelry.

"Captured Moments" inspires
painter Lori Presthus
Original artwork and jewelry

L Frank Bfly
Lori travels the Western US  visiting wildlife refuges and preserves to study birds in their natural world.  Her photography inspires her original paintings which are rendered in egg tempera (used during the renaissance) and pastels.  We offer her original 11" x 14" unframed prints on rice paper which she hopes create a sense of joy and tranquility in the viewer.  We also have Lori's artwork translated into jewelry creating truly wearable art.  Click here to see a few pieces of her work.
