L Frank BflyNew batch of clever, whimsical clocks

Mark Brown and Susan Boss make fun, one-of-a-kind mixed media clocks in their backyard studio.  Each piece is a unique and engaging character with its own identity and style. The components are found at tag sales and flea markets.  In the endless stream of loaf pans, jar lids, cooking utensils and candy tins lies a wonderful array of colors, textures and forms.  Mark and Susan bring their creative energy to this mix of found, recycled and discarded objects. They acknowledge the value of these materials and transform them into something beautiful.  Click here to see some of the two dozen new clocks we just received.

Owner Art Milstein celebrates 80th birthday!

L Frank Bfly
Art and Donna opened Hanson Galleries 32 years ago in what Art admits was his third career.  The son of Eastern European immigrants, Art grew up in The Bronx.  A job brought him from the snowbelt to the sunbelt where he fell in love with the weather and the big blue skies.  He soon met Donna on a blind date and they eloped in Maui just over 35 years ago.  Anya and Eran, their daughter and son-in-law, have gifted them with their grandson Jacob.

To celebrate his 80th birthday, Art went zip-lining through the treetops of the rain forest in St. Lucia.  We hope his next celebration is a little less risky.

Art still works at the Uptown Park store 30 hours a week.  He insists on being there to greet the customers.  He attributes his good health to Donna's watchful eye.  Next time you are in Uptown Park, please stop by and wish him well.

Turtles may be slow, but they still finish first.  Change his cap with one from your favorite brew and place him nearby.  His magnetic shell keeps paperclips handy.  Desk Pets require no food, little attention and hate to walk.

New artist Tonguis

Cats have always found a good home at Hanson Galleries and this 8" tall cutie is no exception.
Available in the traditional copper glaze or white crackle glaze.  The red heart is symbolic of the love cat owners have for their pets.

Leather bag is ready to rodeo!

Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo continues

L Frank Bfly
This Houston tradition, starting in 1931, is one of the events that put the city on the map.  In fact, it created a world presence.  It continues to be the largest livestock show and rodeo in the world.  Click here to read more about it's history, it's events or to buy tickets to the rodeo.

Our artist, Patti
Douse, has won an award on this boot leather bag.  Other western style bags available.

Ribbon sculptures just arrived

New artist Bill Ooms of Arizona

L Frank Bfly

A wood artist has the opportunity to transform the once-living tree into something uniquely different that retains its beauty for generations to come.  Bill uses beautiful exotic woods when creating these segmented sculptures.  Smooth curves are the result of sections being turned on the lathe prior to assembly.  A "ribbon sculpture" resembles a thin ribbon of wood that twists and winds into a closed shape.  Aren't they full of movement?
This one is titled "Tiger by the Tail" and stands 18" tall.  His piano key sculpture would be a highlight in any music room.  Click here to see the pieces he just sent us.  Several are mounted on marble bases.

Wood to wear

L Frank BflyTwo different artists, Mary Kessler and John Bakula, make our flattering wooden jewelry using exotic hardwoods.  The jewelry's bold statement will be sure to start a conversation.  Many sizes and shapes are available all in French hook style.

Fountain wasn't happy

Our customers in other parts of the country won't give us any sympathy when they see this photo.  Especially when I tell them that on March 3rd as I am writing this newsletter, I am enjoying a dry, 70 degree day with the windows open.

Dear friends,

I am often asked if I take some of all the artwork we show to our home.  The house would have to be huge to have such a collection.  However, I'm able to tell the customers that I get to select interesting work from interesting artists, bringing it altogether in an interesting way, selling to interesting people and, lastly, finding great homes for all those interesting pieces.

What a wonderful career American crafts has given me.  The staff all agree that working around interesting merchandise and selling to interesting people has kept them happy working at Hanson Galleries.  Thank you customers for making this happen.

Most sincerely,  Donna.
