Houston Metal Artist Guild Juried Show and Sale |
Postponed by Hurricane Ike, this popular metal artists collection is opening this weekend and running through the end of the month. Sixteen Houston area artists working in metal have artwork juried into the show. Wall sculptures by John Barber will stand out among all the innovative jewelry designs that are sure to pique your interest.
The show opens on Sat, Oct 4th with a reception from 6-9pm at the Uptown Park location only. Come meet the artists and enjoy some wine and food. Everyone seems anxious to reconnect after the catastrophe.
We are pleased to showcase the work of these talented Houston area artists again this year. To see the entire show on our website, click on the Quick Link below. There will be four juror's awards and all the work is for sale.

"Elements of Earth and Fire" Clay in Houston
Demonstrations 12-4, reception 6-9 Saturday, Oct 4th |
This second annual juried show features the works of 25 local clay artists who are members of the ClayHouston organization. The show is running concurrently with the HMAG show mentioned in the above article.
Come see wheel throwing demonstrations at both locations between noon and 4pm this Saturday. The opening reception will be from 6-9 at the Uptown Park location only. Join in our first party since Ike and have the opportunity to chat with the artists as well as old and new friends. You can view the entire show on our website by clicking the Quick Link below. Four juror's awards will be given and all the pieces are for sale. The show continues through Thanksgiving.
Sadly we need to tell you that one artist, Linnis Blanton, lost everything during Ike's storm including the pieces for the show. We send our best wishes to him and his family as they start rebuilding their lives.

We are collecting money for Craft Emergency Relief Fund for Houston area craftspeople hurt by Hurricane Ike |
We will have collection boxes in both of our locations throughout the month of October in order to collect funds for this very worthy cause.
As you can see in the photo, we collected running water in any receptacle we could find. When we ran out of buckets and trash cans, we used $1000 pieces of handblown glass and beautiful ceramic bowls. As we were able to begin the cleanup and work with our bank and insurance people, we realized many of our artists in the Texas gulf coast were harder hit and not as able to rebuild as we might be. For their benefit we will be running a silent auction on several pieces of work from our caring artists who have donated pieces for this cause.
The silent auction will begin at Saturday's opening reception and continue through the end of October. Sorry, we couldn't figure out fast enough how to offer this over the Internet. The auction will only be at the Uptown Park location for now.
Craft Emergency Relief Fund is a long standing non-profit charitable organization strengthening and sustaining the careers of craft artists. To learn more about it, click on the Quick Link above. | |
To all our Hanson Galleries friends,
If Ike taught us anything, it's that we all are in the same boat. Ike's fury caused us extensive damage at Hanson Galleries Uptown as well as hurting many others in the Texas gulf coast. As all of us continue to pick up the pieces of our lives, we want you to know that we at Hanson Galleries stand ready with our friendly service. We share with you the hope that our lives will improve as we move forward with the repairs and rebuilding. We will always remember Ike and be grateful we survived it.
Sincerely,
Art, Donna, Larry and all your friends at Hanson Galleries
