Engebretson bee setHanson Galleries wins "Top Retailer of 2008" Award in Philadelphia August 3rd.

Hanson Galleries has again been named one of 25 "Top Retailers of American Craft" in the nation by Niche Magazine.

The annual Top Retailer Awards program recognizes craft retailers who are committed to fair business practices and to growing and strengthening the North American craft community.  Professional fine craft artists throughout the U.S. and Canada nominated more than 600 galleries, retail stores, arts nonprofits, museums and guilds in various categories for the 2008 competition.  Hanson Galleries has been in this eleet group every year they were eligible to be considered for the past 15 years.

"This awards program honors galleries and retailers for their commitment to supporting the aritists," said Wendy Rosen, publisher of NICHE Magazine.  "It's not about the biggest sellers or fanciest shops.  The "Top Retailers" are often mentors who work hard to build and maintain good relationships with emerging and established artists."

In accepting the award, Donna Milstein, owner, thanked her husband, Art, her gallery director for 26 years, Larry, all of her employees and loyal customers for support over the years and last but not least, the artists whose creative spirit makes it all possible.

Mixed metal clocks

become wall art

Engebretson bee setBob Rickard's background includes designing and building theater sets until he took a diversion to designing computer software.  After 30 years in computers, he decided to combine his interests in the visual aspects of theater and the abstract work of computer software designing.

By opening his own metal arts studio in New Mexico, he has succeeded in utilizing his love of geometry, movement and color.  He has come a long way from "puttering in the garage," to creating and expanding his designs and processes to creating small works of art like these clocks to large scale custom installations.

We are proud to be Houston's exclusive outlet for his work.

"Crayola" scarf sales to benefit Cancer research

Engebretson bee setThis marvelous design was one of the many wonderfully clever, often humorous and inspiring handpainted silk scarf designs done entirely by the loving hands of Rosalyn Mina in her charming log cabin-studio in Montana.

This intriguing scarf has been carefully reproduced with extraordinary skill by a group of artists who are giving 50% of the profits to the Susan G. Komen Cancer Research Center in her memory.

When it was discovered that she had breast cancer, her friends, neighbors and gallery owners rallied together and auctioned off many of Rosalyn's highly revered and collected handpainted silks raising a significant amount of money to assist her in her time of need.  She lived five more years before succumbing to this dreaded disease.
