Betty Jo Denham retires after 26 years at Hanson Galleries |
All of Betty Jo's following will be sad to see her go, but we're sure you join us in wishing her a wonderful retirement life. On a recent interview Betty Jo told us that Hanson Galleries was her first and only real job outside the home. She waited until both of her children were married before seeking a job and stated that working in retail was so much easier than raising two kids.
She brought with her a sparkling Southern belle friendliness that set the standard for customer service at Hanson Galleries. Being a good customer first was the best training she ever had on being a salesperson, she stated.
Betty Jo also brought with her a strong corporate mentality that came from traveling the world with her ex-husband who was in chemical sales. He often said of her, "You make a better CEO than most of the guys I know."
Recognizing her strong talents, she was promoted to personnel manager and then Town & Country store manager. She took a year's leave-of-absence to help her aging Mother relocate. For the last eight years she has been working part time and is now retiring to tend to her gardening and to sharpen her bridge game. All of us wish to thank her for her dedicated years and for bringing so much graciousness to Hanson Galleries.

"As the Wood Turns"
Wood turning show going on now. |
We are pleased to showcase the work of nationally and internationally recognized wood workers. The advent of electricity changed this old technique into one with the sophistication that we witness today.
Wood turning usually starts with a block of wood that is attached to a lathe spinning at 100's of revolutions per minute. Ultra sharp tools are used to hollow out the form and refine the exterior shape. Featured artist Dan Fischer, graphs out the sizes and angles of each layer of wood and builds a form that is then refined by turning on the lathe.
Also part of the show is Bill Tilson's petal series which was featured in England's National Wood Working Magazine. His work was selected for the current exhibition at the Houston Center for Contemporary Crafts.
Milo Mirabelli, another of the show's artists, has been featured in national magazines and touring shows. Click here to view some of the show's outstanding pieces.
