Dichroic glass plates

Engebretson bee set

A new and vibrant direction for dichroic glass is now at Hanson Galleries. Richard and Laurel Yourkowski are influenced by the Art Nouveau period, however each of their pieces is absolutely unique in design  and interepted in vibrant, bold colors of dichroic glass.  These decorative plates are available in three sizes,  7", 24 ", and, as shown, 17".  All of us who admire dichroic glass in art have the military and space programs to thank for this exciting art form.   Don't miss this exciting new work the next time you visit Hanson Galleires.

Artwork for Passover

First day passover is April 20th

The passover celebration is a feast of freedom called a seder.  DeVinci's famous painting of "The Last Supper" depicts a passover seder.  The passover story is told in a spirit of tradition and is a joyous multi-generational family tradition in the Jewish home.

Today's artists celebrate this universal theme by creating ceremonial artwork for the contemporary home.

The seder plate holds the traditional food used during the telling of the passover story at the seder dinner.

This exciting new vertical design from Gary Rosenthal has the added bonus of taking up less room on the seder table.  Example is from our wonderful Judiaca.

It's called "Roman Glass"

Cohen Brac At 2000 years old, it carries it's age with beauty and panache.  Our gallery artist, Jackie Cohen, is the leader in its use in the craft market.
Rare pieces are found during archiological digs in the Middle East.  A perfect piece is priceless and goes to a museum setting, but  the shards may to be exported.  Jackie obtains these and then designs sterling silver jewelry using the shards creating a truly one-of-a-kind piece that bears testament to the beauty of Ancient Glass.

Just think, the piece you choose might have been part of an amphora or vase used 2000 years ago.  A sizable new collection of his work has just arrived.   Jackie Cohen Jewelry

The Art of Ikebana
Japanese Flower Arranging

What distinguishes Ikebana from other approaches of flower arrangement is its asymmetrical form and the use of empty space as an essential feature of the composition.  For years Hanson Galleries has sold the vessels that make this result possible.

Japanese arrangement is based on THE HARMONIOUS LINE that is created with flowers, twigs and leaves.  A triangular shape, for instance, represents sun, moon and earth.Engebretson bee set

You needn't be a trained Ikebana master to use these vases effectively, just keep your designs simple.  However, if you would like to make a study of it there are several Ikebana schools in Houston teaching different disciplines of this Japanese art.   One of them is Tachibana School of Ikebana, 707 West Alabama, Houston, 713-526-7177.  Tachibana School of Ikebana.
