"GreenCraft"...what is it?
The craft movement has always been on the cutting edge of socially conscience living. Now there's a ground swell with artists using eco-friendly materials and/or techniques in creating their work. During our 30 years at Hanson Galleries we have selected many artists who have chosen sustainable and/or recycled materials to create their designs. We are proud to be offering many new artists' works in the near future which exemplify "GreenCraft".
Ted McLean is a "GreenCraft" artist. He turns olive wood vessels from the burl section of non- producing trees which have had to be replaced. Burlwood makes beautiful, gnarly-looking art pieces. He builds his own tools to do this sophisticated turning. The walls of the vessel are very thin with only a small hole on the top of the piece from which all the interior wood has been removed. Use the Quick Link to see his beautiful "GreenCraft". |
New Work by Roger Dandridge
It's no surprise we have a strong following of Roger Dandridge's jewelry! We have carried his work for over 20 years. He mixes colored stones, natural crystals, and even unusual carvings to create one-of-a-kind rings and bracelets. Fine silver is then electroformed around these unusual combinations making truly unique pieces. The buyers have recently seen him and selected a large collection which can be viewed on the Quick Link at the right. His jewelry is at both locations. |

"Craft in America" Opening
On Friday, February 22, The Houston Center for Contemporary Craft opened the traveling show "Craft in America". Houston is very honored to be chosen one of the seven cities to showcase this exhibition. Art and Donna, owners of Hanson Galleries, attended the opening. They were thrilled to chat with Carol Sauvion the heart behind the PBS specials on "Craft in America" that have been showing on our local Channel 8 station. From left are Julie Farr, director of the museum, Carol Sauvion, Donna and Art. |
