Nonprofit Earns National Accreditation for Downtown Efforts
Jeffersonville Main Street Inc. has been presented with accreditation as a National Main Street Program for 2010. The national accreditation is earned by a select group of Main Street organizations nationwide which have built strong revitalization organizations and demonstrate ability in using the Main Street approach for strengthening the local economy & protecting downtown buildings. "We congratulate this year's Nationally Accredited Main Street programs for meeting our established performance standards," says Doug Loescher, director of the National Trust Main Street Center. "Accredited Main Street programs are meeting the challenges of the recession head on and are successfully using a focused, comprehensive revitalization strategy to keep their communities vibrant and sustainable." The organization's performance is annually evaluated by Indiana Main Street, part of the State of Indiana's Office of Community and Rural Affairs, which works in partnership with the National Trust Main Street Center to identify the local Main Street programs that meet performance standards. "The accreditation by the National Main Street Center is a testament to what Jeffersonville Main Street Inc. has been able accomplish through their organization's efforts," said Shae Kmicikewycz, Program Manager for Indiana Main Street. "They have built great partnerships within the community and have developed valuable programming and events. Jeffersonville Main Street Inc. continues to be a model for other Main Street organizations within the State of Indiana and on the forefront of Main Street revitalization. We are very proud of their accomplishments and congratulate them on this National distinction." Kmicikewycz noted that 20 Indiana communities have achieved this highest level of distinction for a Main Street program in 2010, they are:
