Merry Christmas from

Fork Union Military Academy
When reflecting upon the true meaning of Christmas this year, a member of our FUMA staff came across this letter in the December 14, 1990 issue of the school newspaper, The Sabre. They are representative statements from cadets when asked what Christmas 1990 would be like in spite of the current world situations. We believe it is a fitting message for all of us even today. We hope you will find a renewed sense of hope and faith after reading these words.

Christmas in Spite of it All

This Christmas will be different from ones of the past. The economy is in trouble and our country is involved in a crisis in the Middle East. So this holiday season will be a much more spiritual one as opposed to the materialistic ones of recent years. Families will have to pull together to be strong through this rough time. This will cause people to think of the true meaning of Christmas and help them realized it is much more important than the materialistic one.

Because of the threat of war in the Middle East and the unstable economy in our country, one might tend to forget that Christmas is still a time of giving and praise in recognition of the blessings everyone has received because of God's love for us.

Though many families will be apart, the Christmas spirit will still be alive. People will make the best of their situations and still enjoy the spirit of this season of joyous events-the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ, the coming of the wisemen, and the glorious songs of the angels giving praise to God for His wonderful gift to humankind.

Certain shortages, loss of jobs, and wars arising have come upon us at this holiday season, but it will not be as bad as it seems. Families and loved ones will pull together and make it through these rough times.

Many people feel that Christmas will not be what it should be this year. The truth is that it will be as good as one wants it to be. Just remember the real reason for the season and let the love flow.

Think about and pray for the people in our country who will spend Christmas on the streets because they are homeless. Maybe it's time we all stopped wanting and taking so much and start sharing what we have. Every time one of us reaches out and makes a donation or helps out at a benefit, we create one more person who has something to be thankful for.

The bad turn of events may actually lead us to a more meaningful Christmas. With our nation's people united and hoping for the same goals, the usual materialistic holiday many be placed on the shelf and the true meaning of Christmas experienced.

We have to pray and just keep the faith and put everything in God's hands. This is a time for reuniting in which we all have to stand together and support one another. No matter the situation or conditions, Christmas should be a time of giving, sharing, happiness and good will among us all. God Bless Everyone.
Years from now when we might recall Christmas 1990, we may remember it as one when we gave back its true meaning so long lost. That was the year that Christmas wasn't about material things; it was about love, togetherness and seeking peace.

In December 2008 we hope you will carry with you the spirit of Christmas each and every day for many years to come. From your friends and family at Fork Union Military we wish you all a Very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
