Dear Parents/Guardians:

By now all of you should have received from the Academic Office the complete schedule of events for our upcoming Parents Weekend at Fork Union Military Academy. It was mailed with your son's grades a couple of weeks ago and has been posted on our website since the first part of September.  Here is a quick link to the Schedule of Events.

As a reminder, Parents Weekend begins on Friday, October 17th. If you haven't already registered for Dr. Barry Hensley's workshop at 2:30 PM in the Beatty Library, please make sure you do so as soon as possible. Space is limited and this informative session will assist parents with the many lifestyle changes brought about by sending a son to a military boarding school. Please email Ms. Ann Yonce in the Infirmary at yoncea@fuma.org if you plan to attend.

Following the workshop is our Spaghetti Dinner sponsored by our Parents Association. All money raised from the dinner will help support the Parents Association fund and go to needed projects on campus. The dinner will begin at 6:30 PM and tickets can be purchased at the door. Those of you who joined the Parents Association will receive two dinner tickets at the door. A list of all members will be on hand when you check in. Don't forget to bring your membership card that also entitles you to a 10% discount in the cadet store on all purchases.  Any questions relating to Parents Association can be directed to Jana Vaughan, Development Coordinator at 434/842-4370 or vaughanj@fuma.org.

We would also like to welcome back Pat and Renee Fraley to the FUMA campus. We are grateful to them for serving as our parent chairs for this academic year.  Pat and Renee have sent 4 sons to the Academy! They bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to the Parents Association and serve as an invaluable resource to parents of current and prospective cadets.  Those of you who have had the privilege to meet them in the past are aware of their strong faith, determination, and commitment to this Academy.

On Saturday, October 18th the Estes Athletic Center will be open for all Upper School cadet families to meet with faculty and staff beginning at 9:00 AM. You will have a chance to meet your cadet's teachers and also other staff members, purchase cadet badges and FUMA's famous peanuts. We will conclude at 11:00 AM in order to prepare for first call for the parade at 11:30 AM.  At the conclusion of the parade lunch will be available in the dining hall for any family members and tickets can be purchased at the door. Cadets eligible for a leave weekend will be permitted to leave with their families once the parade has finished and they have completed checkout with the Commandant's Department. Day passes are also available for cadets who are not leaving for the entire weekend. Please remember to follow our guidelines regarding leave and continue to remind your cadet of his responsibility to the Academy as a representative of the Corps.

As another reminder, handicap parking will be available in front of the Estes Athletic Center. The Academy  provides a golf cart for transporting elderly or handicapped guests to and from the parade field if needed.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the Academy. For future reference, please include the full name of your cadet in all inquiries so we may be able to address any specific questions in a timely manner. Thank you for your cooperation. We look forward to meeting you on October 17th & 18th.

Sincerely,
