Fork Union Military Academy Press Release
Fork Union Military Academy
FUMA On YouTube.com
Fork Union, VA - April 10, 2007 - One of the world's most popular Web sites, YouTube.com, now boasts a growing collection of videos about Fork Union Military Academy on a special "channel" developed by FUMA's Communications Department.

Visitors to the FUMA channel ( http://www.youtube.com/CaptDanFUMA ) will find videos about the Academy's history, testimonials about the school from FUMA cadets and families, and even full-length copies of promotional films made by the school in the late-1940s and mid-1950s.

Using the servers and technology offered by YouTube.com makes sense, says FUMA's Director of Communications, Dan Thompson. "Not only has their solution for hosting and serving up video become a standard way to stream video, but it's available at no cost to the school and gives an opportunity to promote the Academy to a huge audience."

While the videos hosted on this YouTube.com channel can also be viewed directly on the FUMA Web site ( http://www.forkunion.com/media ), Thompson encourages everyone to visit the YouTube channel, watch the videos, rate the videos, offer positive comments, and select the videos as "favorites."

"The more views we get, the higher ratings, and the greater the number of people listing our videos on their 'favorites' list, the better chance we have to see our videos be 'featured' on YouTube.com and gain even more traffic and promotional impact for the Academy."

The Academy hopes to add even more video content in the coming weeks, so Thompson suggests that viewers "subscribe" to the channel so that they will be automatically notified as new videos are added.

In recent months, the only video found when viewers searched for "Fork Union Military Academy" was an 11-second clip of a former cadet performing an impressive moon-walking style dance in the dining hall on graduation day. "We didn't post that particular video but we're happy to round out the view of FUMA on the YouTube site. While Abbot's dance reflects both joy and talent, I'm not sure it's the most complete view of life at the Academy," Thompson jokes.

"This is just one more way to promote the Academy's 'success stories' to the public," says Thompson. "It's fun, it's interesting, and it helps market the school to a wider audience."
