Q & A
Is meditation for me?
I am considering taking a meditation class, and I
have some questions. I smoke cigarettes and drink a
few beers on the weekends but, I still want to get
some of the benefits that I read about, like help with
my blood pressure and insomnia. Can I learn to
meditate and still have my normal life?
Great question. The good thing about meditation is
that anyone can do it. You don't have to become a
vegetarian, non smoker, or a teetotaler. You don't have
to change your beliefs or join a religion. You don't have
to wear certain outfits or buy crystals. You don't have to
get into any weird positions or do yoga. The
meditation techniques we teach are done silently,
sitting down, so you can do them almost anywhere.
You can live the life you already live and meditate.
Eventually, meditation might help you to
break habits you no longer want to keep. It seems to
open us up to making different choices, but making
changes is totally up to you. I know someone smoked
cigarettes for 30 years, and then after a few years of
meditating, stopped smoking The benefits of
meditation unfold naturally, you'll have more energy
and feel better and you'll get rid of stress. There is
nothing you need to do to gain the benefits, except.....
to make time to meditate.
The next meditation workshop is in Scottsdale on
Sunday, September 16th. I hope you can join us!
You can save $100 on the September 16th workshop
when you mention the 'back to school special'.

Meditation Retreat Weekend in October
Saturday, October 6 - Monday, October 8
Give yourself a weekend off to deepen and enhance
your meditation practice and reconnect with yourself
and your spirit. Learn new tools to create inner peace
from the work of Byron Katie, Gary Zukav, and Deepak
Chopra.
Special guests will join us: Andrea Hanson, a
facilitator of Emotional Fitness at the Red Mountain
Spa and former Chopra Center program director, will
lead us in energizing breathing and gentle yoga
exercises each morning. Delicious, organic,
vegetarian meals will be prepared by Melissa
Karolides, a meditation and yoga teacher who has
created many meals at the Chopra Center. We'll take
a field trip to some hidden spots in Sedona's glorious
wilderness with private guide extraordinaire, Dennis
Andres, author of The Essential Guide to
Sedona.
Those who know Sedona report that it is intense and
profound, heart-opening and life-changing. The
majestic red rock monuments soar above the juniper-
covered hillsides and inspire and energize you. The
night sky is clear and awesome and will fill you with
wonder. It is the perfect place to embrace stillness
and take a time out for yourself. The serene retreat
space is settled among these inspiring red rocks
adjacent to the national forest.
The early registration rate $275 has been extended
through September 15th. And if you sign up with a
friend you'll each save 20%. The retreat is limited to
18 attendees, so hurry, there are only a few more
spaces left.
Tuition includes vegetarian meals and materials.
Accommodations are not included. Find out

If there is to be peace in the world,
there must be peace in the nations.
If there is to be peace in the nations,
there must be peace in the cities.
If there is to be peace in the cities,
there must be peace between neighbors.
If there is to be peace between neighbors,
there must be peace in the home.
If there is to be peace in the home,
there must be peace in the heart.
- Lao-tse, Chinese Philosopher, 6th Century BC
Here's to peace,
