Congratulations to the 10 finalists in the 2011 ASCA School Counselor of the Year program. The finalists will visit Washington, D.C. in February to participate in a congressional briefing, meet with their members of Congress and be honored at an awards gala. From these 10 finalists, one School Counselor of the Year will be selected.

Celebrate School Counseling
National School Counseling Week, Feb. 7-11, 2011, will be here before you know it. Are you ready? This year, ASCA will not be producing a National School Counseling Week kit. Instead, the printed materials (proclamation, certificate of appreciation, sample morning announcements, etc.) are available for free download online. There are also bookmarks, pencils, posters, stickers, etc., available for purchase for those who want them. ASCA hopes this new method of distributing National School Counseling Week materials will allow everyone to get only the materials they want at the lowest possible price. No Name-Calling Week: ASCA has partnered with GLSEN and Simon and Schuster for No Name-Calling Week, Jan. 24-28, 2011. Aimed at middle and elementary schools, No Name-Calling Week aims and ending name-calling of all kinds and provides schools with tools to launch an on-going anti-bullying campaign in their communities. Learn more."Surviving a Thousand Cuts": The American Association of School Administrators (AASA) recently released a report, "Surviving a Thousand Cuts: America's Public Schools and the Recession," which finds school systems across the country are bracing for additional budget cuts. $2,500 for Solutions to Classroom Problems: The National Education Association and the Department of Education have created an online space to identify and solve education's most pressing classroom problems. The best receive awards and may be selected for further development. Deadline is Jan. 14, 2011. Learn more.
