Do You Know a Shining Star?

The deadline for School Counselor of the Year nominations is fast approaching. If you know an outstanding school counselor that you think deserves the honor of being named ASCA School Counselor of the Year, be sure to nominate him or her by Sept. 15, 2010. Nominees must be practicing school counselors with at least five years experience and work in a U.S.-based school. Previous finalists are not eligible to re-apply for three years. Delegate Assembly Updates Position Statements

At Delegate Assembly in June in Boston, the delegates approved the following updated and new position statements.

· Children Experiencing Homelessness
· School-Family-Community Partnerships
· Students With Special Needs

New RAMP Schools Announced

At the ASCA Annual Conference, 86 schools were awarded the Recognized ASCA Model (RAMP) designation. They are to be commended for their dedication to serving all students with a comprehensive school counseling program that shows how students are different as a result of what school counselors do. The next deadline for RAMP applications is Oct. 15, 2010. Learn more about applying for RAMP.
New & Noteworthy

Treatment Providers and Students in Clinical Training Programs Needed: Behavioral Tech Research Inc. is recruiting treatment providers and students in clinical training programs for its Mastery of Anxiety and Panic for Adolescents (MAP-A) study. Eligible applications will receive free training in MAP-A and will be compensated up to $200. Learn more.

Connect Students to ATETV: A free online video series, sponsored by the National Science Foundation connects students with up-to-the-minute information about education and employment opportunities. ATETV features a new episode every Monday and offers networking capabilities to connect students and educators with prospective employers in technical fields. Learn more.
