Scurati, Sicilia IGT (Sicily, Italy) Bianco 2007 ($14, Vias Imports)
Blended from Chardonnay, Grillo and Greco, this is a very versatile wine that will suit almost any occasion for a light- to medium-bodied white.
The aromas are soft and subtle, and likewise the finish is gentle, with enough acidity to freshen the fruit but not enough to strike anyone as tart or grating.
The midpalate is where this really shines, with rounded, substantial fruit recalling ripe pears and mandarin oranges.
Accent notes of nuts and fresh flowers lend some complexity, that there's a pleasing impression of ripe sweetness (but not sugar) in the finish.
88 - Michael Franz

Shipping Wine to MarylandAs I'm sure our Maryland readers know, current state law prohibits the shipment of wine to Maryland. But good news may be on the horizon... with the help of you and your friends.
There currently is a bill -- SB
338 / HB-1262 -- making its way through the legislative process that addresses
this issue. The bill would allow the direct shipment of wine by an
out-of-state retailer to Maryland
residents, 21-years of age and older.
Want to help make this bill a reality? Petition the
legislature. Send a letter to your representatives. Wine.com will even help you
out. Click this link for an automated message that you can just sign and send. There's also a Facebook group -- Marylanders for Better Beer & Wine Laws -- dedicated to the cause with more information. (We encourage you to send these links to any friends, family members, co-workers, colleagues, acquaintances -- or even strangers -- you know who live in Maryland.) |
