Michael Franz head shot
Kim Crawford, Gisborne (New Zealand) Chardonnay "SP" 2006 ($22, Icon Estates)

Chardonnay Label

Although this wine is nowhere near as remarkable as the 2006 Sauvignon Blanc in this special line of 'SP' (small parcel) wines, there's no doubting that this is an excellent Chardonnay that is worth every penny that is being asked for it.

Rich and generously concentrated, it shows ripe tropical flavors and very subtle wood that give it a rounded, soft feel. However, a streak of zesty acidity tightens up the aftertaste, making each sip finish in a way that invites another.
