What an AMAZING Day we had yesterday hearing "George Wein and the Newport Jazz All Stars" 10 minutes from our house on Cape Cod. George is a childhood friend of Shirley's from Newton, MA and the "Greatest Festival Promoter" in the world. He also was a Noel Rockmore promoter in the 70s, commissioning the 1st JazzFest Poster, a trip to Paris and an Homage to the Jazzfest. George is on a video from the 98 NOMA Rockmore Show acknowledging that Rockmore was certainly an undiscovered master before turmoil erupted with Joe Marsal (but that is a story for another day). We really went so Shirley could say hello to her friend George but what we experienced was 86 year old George blowing us away with his jazz band and his stage presence.
Sad to see the passing this past month of Rockmore friend and fellow Des Artiste resident, LeRoy Neiman at 91. Rockmore had a love-hate relationship with Neiman and all artists recognized in their lifetimes. It was extra hard because Neiman was part of the Des Artiste inner circle and was "the recognized artist" at the Des Artiste bar where he and Rockmore hung out together. They both made prints of the NOLA Championship fight of Ali & Spinks in 1978. Neiman made a career out of doing Ali commemorative prints and other sports events. Rockmore always expressed his total disgust of Neiman as a "sell-out no talent" to anyone that would listen. Neiman expressed admiration and respect for Rockmore and his talent on a chance meeting with his girlfriend in the early 80s.

The Summer Adventure began with this short David Amram - Rockmore Film Trailer by Tee Marvin along with the complete David Amram 90 minute Interview Film. David Amram played at a book signing event for Pete Seeger this past Wednesday July 18th in NYC and was featured in the New York Times Arts Section!
This coming Wednesday July 25th at 9PM ET on eBay, the 10 works below from the Shirley Marvin Collection will be auctioned. This will be the last eBay Auction of the summer (maybe longer) as we head on the road in August to meet with the LASM - Louisiana Arts & Science Museum, Tyson Foods and several museums that have Rockmores or are interested in Rockmore. We also will meet with several Rockmore Collectors interested in adding some major pieces to their collections.
We will continue working on our Non Profit GEFQ (Golden Era of the French Quarter Foundation) and The Noel Rockmore Film Project as well as completing the first draft of a Noel Rockmore Book. Unfortunately the dental work for Shirley is pretty extensive and expensive and she will not be able to make this trip. Fortunately there are plenty of family and friends at home this summer on Cape Cod to stay with her and she won't miss the heat in Louisiana.
We will keep you posted as the Rockmore Adventure continues.
