The Interesting results from New Orleans Auction & Neal Auction are posted above. It is important for any artist to have good records at auction houses and to have a high selling percentage and a high number sold. Rockmore is already at 216 sold which is a significant number for any artist. George Rodrigue is at 80, Sister Gertrude Morgan 40, Clementine Hunter is at 391, Warhol is at 2222 and Picasso is at 6783. Rockmore would tell us all right now that one day he will surpass Picasso's number because he is a better and more prolific artist.
Before 2006, 71 out of 142 Rockmores sold for a 50% success rate and $165,849 total sold at Auction Houses as recorded on AskArt. Since his rediscovery in 2006, 145 out of 168 Rockmore works have sold for an 86% success rate and $347,856 which is a significant difference. Works sold privately or on eBay do not factor into the Auction House records on AskArt and do not help or hurt the artist.
The works sold on eBay from the Shirley Marvin Collection do help us to continue to pursue this Quixotic Quest as we try and fulfill the dream of getting Noel Rockmore the recognition that we all know he deserves. For all of you that have participated and followed the auctions, win or lose, we wish to say thanks for the support. Special thanks to the prolific Noel Rockmore himself who has literally carried us all on his back since October 2010. Perseverance will win the day and that day is getting closer.
We have made it through the winter to the season where hope springs eternal.
