Greetings from fall on Cape Cod where we are having a nice warm spell right before the big Halloween storm usually comes and knocks every leaf off the tree. We had a great time on our driving roadtrip adventure down to New Orleans with a stop in Lagrange, GA. We then spent a week with the writer who is doing the first major publication article on Rockmore ever (circulation 300,000). We took him around to meet several of the characters and collectors and he attended the Party in October for Gypsy Lou & Shirley at Bryant Galleries. We can't tell you much until after the article appears except this guy is a GREAT writer and this is going to be HUGE for Rockmore.
The Party in October for Gypsy Lou and Shirley provided FANTASTIC times for all that were able to attend. Of course the guests of honor alone were worth it but then so many other notable Quarterites, Friends of Rockmore and collectors came and that made it even extra special. Special Thanks and Honorary Quarterite status to Bonnie who rescued Gypsy Lou from the shelter and gave us all a reason to celebrate.
At one point this fall, Shirley said, "this Rockmore vision is a pure vision and I am not the only one that can see it. Rockmore is an undiscovered American Master and he has the art to back it up. It's true, he never edited his work, he put everything out there, he always sold on the side and he never played the Art World game. Despite all of that, his art will win the day, I am sure of it and I hope to stay in good health long enough to see it. The thing I never counted on is that in my later years I would be on this marvelous exciting adventure meeting new people, seeing old friends and being surrounded by my family all along the way."
A friend recently told me good luck on your quixotic adventure and I had to look it up. Quixotic - acting with the desire to do noble and romantic deeds, without thought of realism and practicality. I guess that describes it in a nutshell and we own it. The thing we have learned is that sometimes you have to follow your heart. Our hearts said "try and help mom realize her vision in her twilight years instead of just leaving her alone." Not realistic, not practical and yet it has been wonderful and we would not trade it for anything.
Shirley Marvin is now selling 30 of her Rockmore's on eBay at our Rightway Arts & Treasures store for a limited time. The current economic conditions have made it necessary for Shirley to start to break up her Rockmore collection. Although she wanted to keep them together, she is happy to know that they will be finding new homes with the people that have supported and believed in Rockmore all along. With his national discovery just around the corner, this represents a great opportunity for you to acquire your own New Rockmore and help support Shirley & Rockmore in the process.
In our quixotic quest, this is the part where we believe that the spirit of the old French Quarterite community will rally behind us. We have carried the Rockmore rediscovery ball to the 20 yard line and now Rockmore and all of you can help us carry the ball in for a touchdown!
Our backs might be against the wall but this vision is pure, Rockmore is an unrecognized American Artistic genius, and that vision will win the day.
We believe!
Rich & Tee and Shirley Marvin
