you traveled from where you started.

Greetings!
HAPPY NEW YEAR! Ok, so it's a little late, but why not say it every month? A new year, a new decade, a new day--every day. Isn't that a great wonder?! That each day is new and fresh and we have the choice to make it that way each time we wake. I was recently watching Oprah and she had Rosie O'Donnell as her guest. Someone had asked Rosie, " when are you going to change your story"? She kept relating to a situation in her past and presenting herself to everyone as that "story". It really hit home and I had one of the most powerful coaching sessions I have ever had with my coach Colleen yesterday, changing MY story! So, today's the day! Here's your new opportunity to change a "story" about yourself as well. Enjoy the ride and my very best wishes for the new you!!

The Pareto Principle
Otherwise known as the "80/20 Rule"
Pretty much everyone knows of this rule, and it is applied in so many circumstances, but let's just play with it a bit in the realm of productivity and operations effectiveness. Basically it states that roughly 80% of the effects come from 20% of the causes. Here's how it may relate:
- Time and Focus. If you spent 20% of your time in planning and strategic sessions, it would result in 80% of your work being done more smoothly. Focus on the 20% of the tasks that really matter to getting the job done, and done well.
- Files. You will never use or revisit 80% of what is in your files--so purge, purge, purge!
- Sales and Clients. The most and sales come from the top 20% of your client base. Understanding this provides for a great opportunity to learn more about them and why they are your top income generators. Do surveys, meet with your top clients and ask them why you are a fit for them; find out what it is you provide that is different from your competitor, and then capitalize off of that information.
- Productivity. Could you imagine that only 20% of your time is the most productive for you? Explore when you are most energetic and able to crank things out and schedule yourself accordingly. Plan on doing mundane, low energy or mental tasks when it is your "down" time of the day.
- Joy. 80% of your joy is generated from 20% of your actions.
My continued goal is to have everyone be more aware and conscious of how they spend their time and energy, to increase their productivity. I would love to be able to help YOU be more productive. Global Corner
Fair Trade
As I witness the devastation in Haiti and am watching a series of programs on the BBC channel called Blood, Sweat and Takeaways, I am reminded how important it is to look for and support items that are marked fair-trade, which means that the workers who produced the items, usually in developing countries, earned a fair wage in safe working conditions. It also supports eliminating middlemen and increasing profits for producers. In the tv show mentioned above, 6 British young people went to southeast Asia to work and live as the people there do. At one point, they had only enough money for all 6 of them to share one banana and one piece of bread for breakfast before going and doing back-breaking work in the rice fields. Their next series is called Blood, Sweat and T-shirts and will examine working conditions in the garment industry. In Haiti, the average income is less than $400 per year and the life expectancy is only 53! Yikes!
Coffee and chocolate are two areas where we can make a big difference. Just check on the labels and see if it says "FAIR TRADE CERTIFIED". For a listing of stores that sell fair-trade products, visit the Fair Trade Federation's website ( www.fairtradefederation.org). |

Recommendation
Linda Riggin
I recently had the privilege of getting a reading from Linda via phone. She is a most gifted and compassionate psychic reader. Without going into detail, suffice it to say that she has lived through things that most have not, and that is what has helped hone her skills. She specifically worked with me on removing some blocks that I had and generally giving me a once-over energy clean up!
Linda doesn't have a website or email, and came from a personal recommendation. Her first session is more in-depth, and costs a little more, but it is well worth it!
If you are interested in this type of thing, please give her a call and tell her I sent you. Her number is 520-327-2050.
