September 2009
Greetings!

These last 30 days have been jam packed--all very exciting, and challenging at the same time.  Have you felt that way too?

I was recently watching a program on the 2012 prophecy and one of the experts said that (paraphrasing), "We are in a time of change and humanity is being challenged right now to examine how we are being with each other and our surroundings."  So true!

I don't know of anyone that isn't experiencing accelerated transformation and having "their stuff" come up and be right in front of them to deal with right now.

I know (and I hope you do too) that it is "all good", and we will all be so much stronger in the end.

My wish for you is that your journey is easy and you have the courage to pursue your dreams!

P.S.  I'm going to be putting different pictures in the banner from now on.  Please take a moment to just breathe and enjoy. . .

New Buzzwords
Do you know what they mean?

As I have been getting back into networking and sharing what I'm up to, I'm realizing that a lot of the "lingo" I'm using isn't being fully understood.  There are a lot of new buzzwords out there and you will be hearing them more and more, so I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to get the word out about what they mean.
  • Triple bottom-line (people-planet-profit).  Traditionally, businesses have been concerned about their financial bottom-line as an indicator of the health of the company.  The triple bottom line incorporates other elements into the equation, to have a richer, more holistic viewpoint of "success".

People laughing in officeNotice that the first element is people (as Suzie Orman preaches).  How you honor and build relationships with those around you including your co-workers, clients and community members.

The next element is planet.  How are you and your business contributing to a sustainable future?  What are you doing today to make it better for the next generation to be here?

Finally, financial profit.  If you don't make a profit, you can't stay in business.  Important-yes!  But it is not the only indicator anymore.  People are expecting more out of businesses; especially after how they have seen the exploitations of the last few years.

  • Social responsibility. Goes along with the above.  How you are you being a responsible member of your local and global society and the environment, and how are you giving back?
  • Conscious Capitalism/Consumerism.  This one is about putting your money where your values are. I know this isn't always practical, but just shifting your shopping dollars a little bit makes a huge difference.  Buying copy paper that has some recycled content, for example.

Linda StanfieldThere.  Not too difficult, and it can even be fun to find new ways to incorporate these concepts into business. I would love to hear about your process!

Three quick paper tips!

How can you save on the amount of paper you use?  Here are some easy ways:
  • Linda StanfieldChange your margins.  Change the default setting to .5 inches on all 4 sides instead of 1 - 1.25 inches, which is the typical default.
  • Use both sides of the paper. After you have used one side, most printers have a bypass tray to hold additional paper.  Put the used paper here, or just have a stack by your desktop printer.  Be careful about using this paper in important meetings, however--you may not want the participants to see what is on the other side!
  • Change your font to 11 points. This is still a very legible size for most font types and will save you room on the page.

Celebrate Your Business! Conference

Linda StanfieldWow!  The excitement is building about this conference on September 18th at the US Airways arena!  If you would like to learn more about the concepts I talked about above, then this is the place!

Patricia Aburdene is the keynote speaker.  For those of you that were around business during the 80's she co-wrote Megatrends, a huge best-seller that forecasted the Information Economy and how we would react to it.

Now she has written the new Megatrends 2010: The Rise of Conscious Capitalism where she talks about how joint ventures, relationships, and making heartful, value-based decisions can actually catapult businesses.

There will also be lots of other speakers on greening your business, current tax advantages, relationship-based marketing and business development techniques and tools.  It is a jam-packed day, ending with networking and shooting some hoops on the Phoenix Mercury/Suns court.  (I don't play basketball, but I think this will be great fun!)

Dress is casual.  You will definitely want to attend this one--the investment in yourself and your business will pay off from the connections you make and the education you receive!

Just CLICK HERE to register, or get more information on the speakers.
