Greetings!

Baby, it's hot outside! Living in Arizona (without a swimming pool), I am experiencing what I equate to Cabin Fever when I was living in a colder climate during the middle of winter, but the winters here are sure worth the heat we endure right now!

Here's hoping you have a beautiful and fun 4th of July and rest of your summer!

Emails
To print or not to print. . .

I recently have upped my "Green" accountability and responsibility to a whole new level by joining the board for the Arizona and Valley of the Sun Green Chambers of Commerce, set to launch soon.  One of the places where I still see a lot of waste in offices is in printing off emails.

Because of this heightened awareness, I saw this on someone's email signature and thought it was such a great idea, I have added it to my own:

Eco TreePlease consider the environment before printing this email.

The little image is actually the capital letter P in the Webdings font.  To add this to your emails:
  • Setup an HTML signature. Here's how to do it in Outlook (Tools, Options, Mail Format, choose "Compose this message in": HTML, check that Word is the email editor, Signatures, New [or Edit of adding to a previous signature], Advanced Edit to get to Word).  If you aren't using Outlook then use the help function with your software or check on Google how to set up a signature.
  • Cut and paste the image and text above into your signature, or
  • Create it from scratch by changing the font to Webdings and typing a capital P to create the image.  Change the font back to your regular font to type the rest of the message.  You can change the color of the font as well to make it more impactful.
You can also create a signature from HTML code (contact me if you need the code), but that is the hard way around, in my book anyway.

Another thing you can do instead of printing stuff off and putting it in a drawer to reference later (which then will then probably be purged out in another year or two), is to save the "meat" of the information in another place on your computer.  I have One Note, which is like an electronic spiral notebook, but you can just as easily create Word documents for various topics (vacation information, resource websites, etc.) and save all of a certain type of information on each page/document.

Using the environmental reminder in your email signatures doesn't mean that emails won't be printed out, it is just the concept that people might think twice and become a little more aware in their decision of whether to print or not.

We will focus on those "other" things that really save duplication of effort, and maximize efficiency so you can be more productive and make more money! I even throw in organizing tips and strategies instead of just talking technical.

Global Corner Kiva logo

Do you want to contribute to the empowerment of others? There is a great organization called www.kiva.org where you can help fund someone's dream for as little as $25. Kiva lets you lend to a specific entrepreneur in a developing country to help them lift themselves out of poverty.   You can choose what sector of business, male or female, where in the world, and how much to lend.

Nobel Peace Prize Winner Muhammad Yunnus started this practice in his home country of Bangladesh.  This is not charity in the sense that once the money leaves your hands that it is gone forever. It is, however, a very empowering gift that keeps giving, and gives back to you.

If you are feeling stuck in your giving and receiving cycle, this is an excellent way to jump start it again-I did!
