Time Out versus Self Care
BeachReading
You haven't seen a newsletter from me in awhile. I've been following my own advice this summer and have taken TIME OUT for me... time out to practice the essentials of just being.

"Time out" is not to be confused with "self care". There's a real distinction. To me, "self care" sounds like something on my To-Do list,
yet another thing that I should  do that I don't always get around to, like flossing every day , taking my makeup off before going to bed and doing 30 minutes of  sweaty cardio.

TimeOutInstead, my time out this summer did NOT include any "shoulds"! The whole Cargill clan had our annual fun-in-the-sun vacation on LBI (Long Beach Island, down the Jersey shore). Loved it, as always.  I've spent many hours curled up with lots of good books. Doing quite a bit of writing, which I'm loving, too. A trip to visit my good pal in Vermont. Cooking Sunday Night Suppers and celebrating all sorts of major family milestones.

And lots of time just practicing being...

My Two Favorite Sins:
Laziness and Selfishness

ConfessionalGrowing  up in my Irish Catholic household found me  as a little girl at confession on Saturday afternoons.  I always  had  2 "sins" ready to go, laziness and selfishness. My grandmother, who lived with us, impressed upon me the need to rid myself of such behavior.
.

As I've grown older, I've gradually learned to redefine these words for myself -- I've come to see laziness and selfishness as "virtues".

MargeInChargeAs women in this day and age, we seem to hold ourselves to impossible standards; we've become MARGE-IN-CHARGE of everyone else's comfort. Don't wait until the people in your life have what they want first -- you'll be waiting for a very long time in the sun!

It's time to allow ourselves to learn a new way of being. It's time for a new story of healthy success, where the old definitions of laziness and selfishness are expanded to include these notions:

Relax
I love this one. Sometimes we just need to be "lax"! Lax is defined as loose, slack, not tight or strict or exact. Sounds like a winner to me!

Rejuvenate
Definition: To make or feel young again. Not in age, but in spirit. It is about play, fun, and delight. It's about bringing life back into ourselves again. It's about saying YES! to the radical idea that sometimes life CAN be all about me!

Remodel
One of my personal favorites! For lots of ideas for remodeling your insides and outsides, click here to check out my book called "Look Damn Good".  A reminder here, you can't Look Damn Good when you are worn out and stressed.

GrandmaPlease don't wait to take time for #1. As my dear old grandmother, Mamie O'Neil was fond of saying, "Do it now, you'll be dead a long time."
