Arts & Humanities Council of Montgomery County
Greetings!

Integration is a key teaching tool these days thanks to MCPS Curriculum 2.0 which made its debut last year. According to the new Superintendent for MCPS, Dr. Joshua Starr:

Curriculum 2.0 will provide more instructional focus on the arts, information literacy, science, social studies and physical education. By blending these subjects with the core content areas of reading, writing, and mathematics, students will receive instruction across all subjects...research has shown that well-rounded students are more successful students.

At the Arts & Humanities Council, we're starting our fourth year providing Arts Integrated Residencies (AIR) for pre-K through grade 12. AIR programs are lead by trained teaching artists working closely with classroom instructors to tailor an arts-based residency to specific learning objectives.

So, if want to give your 2nd grade science curriculum or your 8th grade social studies class a boost, then look no further than our Teaching Artist Roster (TAR) where you'll find the latest in creative, integrated teaching strategies.

Let us help you harness the power of the arts to reach students of all backgrounds and educational learning abilities to build skill in and knowledge of literacy, math, science, and social studies. Use the resources in this email to learn about AIR and if you are eligible for an AIR grant. Grants are due November 16, 2011.

Integrating photography, technology, history and environmental studies, ninety students examined how the impact of human needs created change within their planned community of Montgomery Village. Emphasis was placed on historical context, environmental stewardship, artistic communication & personal vision. With digital cameras provided by the artist, photographs were created outdoors in their school neighborhood. This project culminated with an exhibit of student images and written reflections on their community.
