EARTH FRIENDLY

CAMPING TIPS

Pick a local park or campground. The less distance you travel, the more fuel you'll save!

Rent or borrow your camping gear.

Don't move firewood!  Only use kiln-dried firewood to prevent the spread of insects and keep the flame contained. If you choose to build a fire, make sure to use only established firerings.

Light up your nights with eco-friendly options. LED flashlights and lanterns are a great green camping choice since they require less power and last longer than non-LED lights.

Pack reusable dishes for your cookouts and campfires.

Take a break from your beauty routine. Some personal care and beauty products can be pretty toxic to the environment.

Always leave your campsite better than you found it.

Learn something new! Camping is the perfect opportunity to get to know native plants and animals and the issues they face in their local environment.

Mother of the Year
We wanted to congratulate  Michelle Villandry who was awarded Mother of the Year 2011!  Her son Logan (age 9) nominated her with the following essay:

"My Mom should be Mother of the Year because she's always there for me when I need help and hurt. She's always nice to me and so thoughtful and loves me and cares for me. And even though you are sooo sick you are so thoughtful and I LOVE YOU. That's why my mom should be MOTHER OF THEY YEAR."

Get Outdoors
It's National Get Outdoors Day June 11th. National Get Outdoors Day is an annual event to encourage healthy, active outdoor fun. Participating partners will offer opportunities for American families to experience traditional and non-traditional types of outdoor activities. Primary goals of the day are reaching first-time visitors to public lands and reconnecting our youth to the great outdoors. Join us as we celebrate the great outdoors with special activities.
