As I was telling the story of the Seasodies last weekend, I was struck by how many working mom/artists are showcased at Beach Grass.  Paula Sullivan, the creator of Seasodies fish, is mother of three, from Blackstone, MA.  The happy school of fish, made from recycled bottles, are an integral part of Beach Grass's vibe and Paula's sense for color, design and recycling are all part of the package of her success.

Other artists on our Moms Honor Roll are Kate Aiello, Kellie Quinn and Rebecca Townsend, featured below.

To these four remarkable and talented women, I send my personal thanks for all the beautiful things you make for Beach Grass.  I appreciate the wonderful legacy you're each creating, not only with your families, but your businesses.  My hat's off to you!

Happy Mother's Day!

Kate Aiello, inspired by life in Maine

Kennebunk Beach Stone earrings on sterling silver hoops by Kate Aiello.
kennbchear
Inspired by her life in the Kennebunks, Kate Aiello says she's on Career Part II.  After much success as a graphics designer, Kate's focus is now on mothering her two sons, keeping up with a giant garden and exploring a new passion of creating jewelry from "found" treasures.  Whether they be stones from the beach or crystals from a castoff chandelier, her jewelry carries a chic eco-message.

With her sons, she explores the beach for the "best" heart stones, and other treasures to inspire her work.  Jennifer Bordas, another working mom, provides sales support to Kate's designs.

Kellie Quinn, Beachsand Snowflakes

Beachsand Snowflakes
 by Kellie Quinn.
lgsnowflake
Building sand castles with her three children near their Brewster, MA home, Kellie Quinn's creative eye for texture sparked her business sculpting snowflake ornaments from beach sand.

Everyone has a "connection" to the beach.  Family vacations, walks in solitude, finding romance, saying "I do." The beach is packed with memories.  That's why, having a little bit of sand sculpted in a beautiful snowflake, has become a keepsake to treasure forever.  We carry snowflakes made from Kennebunk Beach,  Goose Rocks Beach, Wells Beach and Ogunquit Beach.  A perfect gift for Mom!

Seashell Potpourri by Rebecca Townsend.
seasidedesigns
Visitors to Beach Grass frequently remark "It smells so good in here."  We give all the credit to the Seashell Potpourri, made by Rebecca Townsend of Seaside Designs.  Depending on what corner of the store you're in, you could be smelling Warm Sand, Sunshine, Salty Air or Sail.  A blend of seashells, glass beads and the essential oils of fragrance, her potpourri is a bestseller at Beach Grass.

From her home studio on Cape Cod, Rebecca's artistry also includes beach-themed notecards, calendars, jewelry and home decor.

KLICK Exhibit Opens Friday
Summer of Rain '09 by Brad Maushart
anniv2
A portrait photography exhibit titled "KLICK" opens Friday at River Tree Arts in Kennebunk with a reception from 5 to 7 pm.  Curator is Brad Maushart, professional photographer and owner of the F-8 Photography Gallery in Kennebunkport. You might remember the photo pictured here that Brad took of me walking to work one rainy day last summer, captured through the window of Dock Square Coffee Shop.  The exhibit featuring the works of several photographers runs through May 22.
