A User's Guide for Fun
Isn't it amazing how quickly we can forget a cruel winter, trade the boots for flip-flops and head for the beach!
Here in Kennebunkport, the Memorial Day weekend was the perfect kick-off to Summer '08...friends, families and visitors gathered to enjoy sunny days, starry nights, ocean breezes, beach-walking, gardening, cookouts and the annual Memorial Day tribute in Dock Square.
If you need a few pointers to launch your Summer of Fun, check out "Summer: A User's Guide" Every young family and vacation retreat needs a copy of "Summer: A User Guide" in the bookcase. Author Suzanne Brown has compiled 224 pages of summering wisdom told in a delightfully fun style.
Six chapters cover all aspects of summer fun. From making tire swings and an authentic New England Clambake, to identifying clouds, animal tracks, star constellations and leaves. The chapters on Games, Indoors and Out and For Kids will no doubt be earmarked for the rules on outdoor games, rainy day activities and how to plan a scavenger hunt.

Time to Relax
Summer vacation is no time to be a clock-watcher, but occasionally you will need to check the time to keep your leisurely itinerary on track. At Beach Grass we have teamed up with Ron Menslage, creator of our seashell clocks, to offer six distinct color schemes of his original design. The stained pine clocks are 11 inches square, battery-operated and designed to hang or sit. Another day in Paradise
Also new this year at Beach Grass is a series of wood signs declaring Kennebunkport as "Just another day in Paradise." Available in white and four shades of blue, the sign is 7 x 18 inches, $25. Stop by the store to see them all and the new KPT tile, too.
Enjoy the scents of summer with Ocean Potpourri made by our friends at Seaside Designs on Cape Cod. A mix of glass beads and seashells, we love the Island Citrus and Salty Air potpourri.
The Beach-in-a-Can candle from Aunt Sadie's is another scent that brings back memories of a beach Paradise. At Beach Grass you'll find the fragranced candles mimic several summer favorites like fresh cut grass, old-fashioned lemonade and a clean ocean breeze.

Summertime is the season of snackin'. Beach treats, sunsets  over cocktails and apps, and the quick-fix for unexpected guests. Our cheeseball mixes are legendary and for summer we've stocked up on Tuscan Olive, the classic BLT, Key Lime Pie and Garlic and Herb. The mix has two packets, one to mix with eight ounces of whipped cream cheese, and the other to garnish. Serve with crackers, veggies, crustini, bagel chips...The Key Lime Pie mix, however, makes a great dessert served with graham crackers, wafers or chocolate-dipped finger cookies. A taste of Paradise!

June marks our second year as supporters of The Ocean Project, a non-profit educational initiative based in Rhode Island. The group works with aquariums, zoos and other conservation groups to promote responsible stewardship of the ocean.
The official World Ocean Day is June 8th, but we celebrate it all month.
Co-owner David Lennon designed our third Kenny, the Lobster magnet. Pictured above in his scuba gear, Kenny is encouraging us all to "Seas the Day!"
Proceeds from June sales of the magnet go to The Ocean Project.
