"Green" Spring Cleaning with a Twist
We are all excited about Sponge Cloths, made by Twist, a company with a vision for a clean world. A sponge cloth wipes like a paper towel, absorbs like a sponge and is dishwasher-safe. One cloth does the work of 17 rolls of paper towels! When you finally toss it to the landfill, it degrades in just seven weeks. Sold at Beach Grass in a pack of three for $5.
So what's the deal with sponges? They are made of cellulose, tree fiber mixed with cotton in a process that apparently creates a lot of waste. What makes the Twist company so special is they sourced fiber from renewable tree farms and created a process to reuse 99.97% of the waste. Even the wrap-around label is reusable. Get out your scissors and follow the instructions to cut/fold a cute little bird feeder. Nothing wasted here. We give Twist sponges a big green thumb's up! Learn more at www.twistclean.com
"The Naturally Clean Home" by Karyn Siegel-Maier is a great "recipe" book for making your own cleansers and detergents. There are over 100 herbal formulas for safe, easy to make, non-toxic cleaning. Sold at Beach Grass, $12.95.
For all who aspire "greening" and don't know where to begin, here's "It's Easy Being Green" by Crissy Trask. A handbook that outlines easy-to-do tips and smart solutions for helping the environment while saving time and money. The handbook is well organized by sections for home and work. We found most useful the glossary section that defines "green" words frequently used on eco-labels to describe products or ingredients. Sold at Beach Grass, $12.95.

Eco-Entertaining with Bamboo
Bamboo, a hearty and versatile renewable resource, continues to thrill us. From the exquisite craftsmanship of Bambu, maker of the bowls at left, to the supersoft dish towels from Design Imports, we've got the bamboo at Beach Grass.
Bambu is another environmentally responsible company we admire. Superb quality is striking in its bowls, cutting boards, servers and disposable plates and flatware, all available at Beach Grass. Also impressive is the commitment to the planet...using certified organically grown bamboo. The creative process is free of adhesives and finishes that contain formaldehyde. On the business side, Bambu is allied with 1% For The Planet as well as the Grameen Foundation to help alleviate poverty. You can learn more at www.bambuhome.com or stop by Beach Grass and feel the quality for yourself.
Cutting Edge
This month's special sale item at Beach Grass online www.beachgrassshop.com is the bamboo cutting board with four-piece stainless cheese tools pictured above right. The board is nine inches wide, oval-shaped with a hidden drawer to store the cheese tools. Regularly $65, on sale this month for $45. It's a bestseller at Beach Grass, popular for wedding presents and hostess thank-yous.

Eco-shopping Chic
Canvas grocery totes have great function, but precious little style. They are nothing like the eco-chic Envirosax pictured here. Bright colors, stylish designs and clever functionality...it's no wonder Envirosax made Oprah's pick list last fall. Made of durable waterproof lightweight polyester, they fold down to a three-inch roll with a snap closure. Built tough and strong, one Envirosax holds the equivalent of two plastic grocery bags. Tucked into your purse, suitcase, backpack or briefcase, they are an eco-alternative to plastic shopping bags. Girl, you will never leave home without one! Check them out at The Best You on April 12th at The Coastal House in Wells. (Envirosax, $8 each...what all eco-fashionistas are carrying this year!) |
