Land's Sake Membership
One of the best ways you can support Land's Sake is to become a member, or renew your membership. Our work would not be possible without the help of our generous members. In addition to supporting the mission of Land's Sake, members receive benefits including complimentary admission to certain events and discounts on services and education programs.
About 40% of our 2009 members have not yet  renewed for 2010. If you have misplaced your membership packet or cannot recall whether or not you've renewed, please send an e-mail to  annie@landssake.org. We are most grateful for your support!

Hello Land's Sake friends,

We have a lot to celebrate! These are the glorious days of high summer and our crops are growing beautifully on the farm. This month we also welcome the newest member of our staff, Executive Director Eric Kreilick. Finally, Land's Sake celebrates its 30th anniversary this year and we are throwing a grand party for you, our supporters. Please read on for more details and join us in celebrating our good news!
Meet our new Executive Director

After an eight-month organizational self-assessment and an intensive search process, Land's Sake has appointed Eric Kreilick to the position of Executive Director. Eric comes to us with much experience in land stewardship organizations, both for- and nonprofit. We are thrilled that he has joined our community, and we look forward to seeing Land's Sake grow under his steady hand!

Eric is an articulate, deeply committed environmentalist with proven experience as a manager, team leader and fundraiser. He brings an understanding of forestry and the world of farming. He has served as president and co-owner of a lumber company, received a Master's degree in environmental studies at the University of Montana, worked with the Nature Conservancy and focused on the areas of sustainable agriculture, alternative land tenure, education and human rights. He has worked extensively in Haiti and most recently was a senior associate at the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee in Cambridge, MA.

Please help us welcome Eric this summer by renewing your membership and strengthening the community of Land's Sake as we embark on our next 30 years together as an organization that connects people to the land. Eric's appointment and your support are investments in the health and vitality of our community.

Report from the fields

The recent rain is much needed! The past few weeks of heat and dryness has caused our farmers to work double-time to keep up with the irrigation needs...an especially big challenge with our fields spread out in three different locations around town.

Also, Land's Sake's famous pesticide-free, local garlic will be available soon! Last week in record time despite the heat, our hard working crew and volunteers pulled all of our garlic and prepped it for curing. Thanks to Pete and Julie Hyde for the use of their beautiful barn where our entire harvest is now safely curing before we bring it back to the farmstand in a few weeks!

Please stop by the farmstand and see for yourself the full tables of produce we are proudly displaying everyday! On the farmstand currently:
* carrots
* beets
* early onions
* scallions
* early potatoes
* summer squash
* herbs: basil, parsley and cilantro
* kale (3 varieties!)
* collard greens
* arugula
* radishes

Also, our pick-your-own flowers garden is now open. We have dozens of varieties of flowers available for picking at .25 cents per blossom.

For a daily update of what is available on our farmstand and for Pick-Your-Own availability, please call our Farmstand Information line: 781.609.2456.

We encourage you to come out to the farm, take a walk, have a picnic, visit our chickens and pick up something delicious and healthy for dinner from the farmstand. We look forward to seeing you!
Weekly summer youth programs on the farm

Spots are still available in the Green Power and Farm & Forest Explorers youth camp programs. Give your kids the gift of being outdoors this summer where they will learn about their environment in fun, educational ways. They will thank you for it!

For more information about our outdoor education programs for kids, please visit our website or contact Doug Cook, Education Director, at greenpower@landssake.org or call 781-893-1162.
