1. A ruler:  If you can't measure things, how do you know how to spend your marketing dollars!  Do you have the right metrics?  (And don't forget to set-up Google Alerts for your business AND your competitors' -- so you can track public image and activities. 
2. An agenda:  Create a strategy and calendar for marketing actions and spending -- and recruit a  "hall monitor" to keep you focused.  Our nano-plan format is simple and actionable!  Ask us about it!

4. Tutoring and study help:  Brush-up on social media and PR skills -- every smart marketer will need them in the years ahead.  (We offer reasonably-priced workshops and one-on-one lessons.)  And, if you need a real tutor for your kids, look to Inspirica! 
5. Friends:  The Facebook kind and real ones too.  They can be great sources of business referrals and new thinking.  And, if you're the class clown, here are funny people you can follow on Twitter. 
6. Healthy lunch:  As in brain food!  Some of our fave sites/e-zines are Good, Mental Floss, Fast Company, and  Springwise. 
7. Extra-curriculars:  Check out the YPIE, the New York Enterprise Small Business Awards and the NYXpo for Business.  And you can go to "gym class" on September 17th -- with Let's Move!, the national effort to fight obesity among kids (now at a whopping 40%)! Need a new desk to do your "homework"?  The Keno brothers will be showing off their collection at Design Spree on October 13th. 
8. Writing implements:  The right device and apps can help you improve efficiency and stay connected -- even from the playground.   
9. A cool outfit and things to say on the first day (and beyond):  Ask us about our Personal Branding 101 Workshop.  The right brand message can lead to new business. 
10. Good manners:  Whether you're making new business contacts or writing on someone's Wall, always be sharing and likeable.
