2010 Chateau Barrail Chevrol
Year in and year out, this Barsac from the Bordeaux region simply amazes. Tasted along side 15 other Bordeaux's, many at 2 or 3 times its price, this wine once again received my 3 star rating. Its dark fruit comes at the palate full throttle, but the chocolate, spice and soft tannins are what set the tone for one tasty treat. If you're looking for an everyday French red that doesn't hit the double digit price range, look no further. Great with food or on its own, this Chateau has yet to disappoint.
2006 Travaglini Gattinara
It's been years since I have been able to track down one of my all time favorite wines from Northeast Italy, but as they say, good things come to those who wait. But I wouldn't waste time getting my hands on a bottle this wonderful Nebbiolo based jewel. Blackberry and sweet cherry fruit blend well with its floral nose, adding hints of tobacco, fresh herbs and vanilla to the mix. Paired with any veal dish, chicken or risotto, this wine will offer you a treat for the senses. Me see...... me smell...... me taste......me like!
2011 Spottswoode Sauvignon Blanc
The are many great $10 to $15 Sauvignon Blanc's from all around the world that are enjoyed on a daily basis. When you see one that approaches the $40 spectrum, you might think it's a little hard to swallow. Believe me, this Spottswoode is worth its weight in gold and more. Tasting this luscious example is definitely a treat, as if you were tasting S.B. royalty. A blend of Napa/Sonoma fruit, it displays velvety white peach, lemon, lime, grapefruit and green melon nectar. The finish shows fresh cut grass and a touch of gun flint. Simply put, its deep and complex, rich and savory. This wine usually is reserved for "restaurants only" yet we here at Champane's Wine Cellars are lucky to snag a few cases each year. Considered one of the best Sauvignon Blanc's in the world, it's no wonder they sell out quickly. Treat yourself like royalty and feel like a King (or Queen) for a day.
2010 Rockwall Viognier
With the scorching heat of Summer, the red wines in my cellar have been taking an extra added nap. Which is a great reason to bring out those refreshing white wines that bring a touch of Spring to the season. What better way to relax and refresh on a hot day than with a glass of Viognier. Not just any Viognier, one that not only pleases the tastebuds but takes it easy on the pocketbook as well. Draped in plush honeysuckle and pineapple, the creaminess of orange peel and apricot are big and explosive. Winemaker Shauna Rosenblum has yet another hit on her hands and the parade of satisfied fans wrap around the block. Join the party and enjoy the Summer. That dreaded "S" word of Winter will soon be upon us.
