2009 ROCK WALL ZINFANDEL JESSIE'S VINEYARD
Look out boys, there's a new kid in town. Same face, different label. If many of you zin lover's remember the good old days of great Rosenblum wines, well, happy days are here again. The King of Zinfandel, Kent Rosenblum, is back and better than ever with his new venture: Rock Wall Wines. The Jessie's Vineyard features old vine grapes that were planted in the 1890's. This wine explodes with huge blackberry, cherry and raspberry fruit, with plenty of chocolate, pepper and spice that makes you want to fire up the grill and throw down any sizable piece of meat you can find. With daughter Shauna on board as winemaker, make room in your cellar for some spectacular wines from this "Back to the Future" venture.
2010 APOTHIC WHITE BLEND
What do you do when you can't decide between having a Chardonnay, a Riesling or a Moscato to sip this evening? Just have all three with this new release from Apothic Wines. This unique blend displays flavors of tropical fruit, peach, pineapple with a hint of honey and sweet vanilla. If you're looking for something good, refreshing and uncomplicated, a wine just to pop open and enjoy sitting on the porch or patio, look no further than this affordable and tasty treat.
2008 MASSAYA GOLD RESERVE
The wines from Lebanon have consistently been produced since biblical times and Jesus himself may have sampled some of the great offerings from the Bekaa Valley himself. The flagship wine from Massaya is a blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Mouvedre and 10% Syrah with luxurious deep intense fruit of plum, blackberry and black cherry with vibrant notes of smoke, cedar, leather and coffee. The aroma's are intoxicating and the finish smooth as silk. Lebanese wines may not be the first thing to pop into your mind when shopping for a bottle but one taste of this polished gem may have you rethinking your next choice in the future.
2010 SHADY LANE BLUE FRANC
Though Michigan is better known for producing excellent white wines, it's tough to convince many that there is actually many great reds being produced across the State these days. My personal favorite is this 100% Blaufrankish, or Lemberger grape most native to Germany and Austria. Lush blueberry and blackberry fruit marry well with the black pepper spice and violet floral notes. Dry and velvety, this concentrated beauty will pair very well with pasta, chicken and especially lamb on the grill. Something unique and Pure:Michigan!
