2009 FRIENDS.RED
This red blend describes the Sonoma County lifestyle to a tee: invite some friends, sit around, drink good wine, enjoy. An imaginative blend of Merlot, Zinfandel, Syrah and Sangiovese, the folks at Pedroncelli Winery have taking their philosophy of home winemaking to the masses and given us a reason to celebrate. It's soft, easy drinking, flavorful, unpretentious and simply, a darn good wine at an affordable price. It's always good to meet a new friend, "friends.red", welcome to the neighborhood.
2007 SHINAS EXECUTIONER
Only 5 cases of their signature wine from this boutique winery in Australia came to the United States, and Champane's Wine Cellars was the lucky recipient of each and every bottle. Loaded with ultra-ripe black cherry and plum fruit, with black pepper and vanilla accents on the midpalate, this blend of Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Viognier is a diamond in the rough. Tight now, but with a little time in the cellar, you will be rewarded with a taste treat to die for.
2006 CHEVALIER de LASCOMBES MARGAUX
With prices of classified growths from France reaching stratospheric proportions, it is good to know that there are great Bordeaux's to be had that won't suck your wallet dry. This blend of near equal parts Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot deliver fragrant and rich red berries, silky vanilla, and structured earth notes that finish long and strong. This pauper will look like a Prince next to the big ticket big boys, and you will be the one to drink like a King, and with some money to spare.
2009 DARIOUSH CHARDONNAY
If only all California Chardonnay's were of this quality, the wine world would rejoice. A flavorful menagerie of lemon, peach, pear, crisp apple and honeysuckle blend harmoniously with the hazelnut , light spice, toast and cedar that makes this one of the world's best. Not only is a visit to this spectacular winery on every wine lovers bucket list, a meeting between your palate and this chardonnay is one heavenly experience for the senses. |

DID YOU KNOW..................that diarist Samuel Pepys wrote about his favorite wine he loved to drink in a London Pub back in 1663, making it the first Bordeaux to be marketed by it's estate name: Ho Bryon. It is the First Growth known today as Chateau Haut Brion.
WINE TRIVIA..................How did Burgundians sabotage early winemaking in France? To further enhance their reputation as the best wine in the world, besieging Burgundians in 1465 began picking grapes in vineyards around Paris very early, forcing them to harvest too soon, resulting in wines that were underripe and dull. Respectfully, they didn't harm the vines, but their tactics ruined the vintage. Sneaky! |

The Hottest New Cocktail from Brazil. (We also just had a couple arrive back from Miami and it's they said it's everywhere.)
Caipirinha
Caipirinha is Brazil's national cocktail, made with Cachaça (sugar cane rum), sugar and lime. Cachaça is Brazil's most common distilled alcoholic beverage. While both rum and Cachaça are made from sugarcane-derived products, most rum is made from molasses. Specifically with Cachaça, the alcohol results from the fermentation of sugarcane juice that is afterwards distilled. The Caipirinha is the national cocktail of Brazil.
And it is simple to make.
Caipirinha
Served On the Rocks (poured over ice) in an Old Fashion Glass (6 to 10 oz.) (for the pool or beach, we use a plastic tumbler)
Ingredients:
50 ml (1 ¾ fl oz.) Cachaça ( suggested brand : Cachaça 51) ½ Lime cut into 4 wedges (or tahiti lime, but not green lemon)
2 teaspoons crystal or refined sugar
Place lime and sugar into old fashioned glass and muddle (mash the two ingredients together using a muddler (or an handle end of wooden spoon). Fill the glass with crushed ice and add the Cachaça.
Garnish with lime. |
