2008 Chateau Graville LaCoste
This is one of the best value and food friendly wines known to man. A Kermit Lynch selection, this white Bordeaux is a blend of sauvignon blanc, semillon, and muscadelle. It's a joy to serve this to unsuspecting guests, who almost always think this is a light Chardonnay. Yet when you tell them Sauvignon Blanc, they think of the Grapefruit bombs of New Zealand. No sir, this is Old World, with vibrant yet seductive citrus fruit and a light acidity that will please the palate on a hot Summer day.
2008 Bethel Heights Pinot Noir
Looks can be deceiving. Light ruby red in color, you might think this Oregon gem would taste very light from it's thin hue. To the contrary, it's packed with sweet raspberry and juicy cherry pie fruit, a light spice and a bouquet of roses straight from the garden. The long finish coats the senses like a high quality perfume. Paired with German schnitzel and pretzel bread, we're talking bliss to the nth degree.
2008 St. Supery Moscato
When the sweet tooth wine god's come a calling, they need look no further than this Moscato, which can only be described as an angel in a bottle. The nectar of apricots, peaches, lemon and orange peel feel so silky, lively and rich, your mouth will feel like it's doing the tango and waltz all at the same time. Whether you're serving it with a chocolate mousse or sipping a glass on the patio, the folks at St. Supery have a heavenly recipe that could tempt the devil to prayer.
2006 Rockaway Cabernet Sauvignon
This Bordeaux blend from Rodney Strong represents their best of the best lots of Alexander Valley mountain fruit, mainly Cabernet Sauvignon with small amounts of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petite Verdot and Malbec. On initial taste, it's the tobacco, leather and espresso notes that hit you first, followed by an intense explosion of aroma's that fill your senses. Not until the finish can you distinguish the luscious dark fruit of blackberry, black cherry and plum. It is young and very tight, which begs for an extended decanting or what I had to do to get it to open up, a double dose through a Vinturi. A cellar worthy candidate that will reward you many years down the road.

DID YOU KNOW.................. that Hippocrates, widely considered the father of medicine, includes wine in almost every one of his recorded remedies. He used it for cooling fevers, as a diuretic, as a general antiseptic, and to help convalescence.
WINE TRIVIA.................. Who is Crljenak Kastelanski? It's our good friend, Mr. Zinfandel. Thought to be a native California grape, Zinfandel's origins actually belong to the country of Croatia. The varietal also spread it's wings to southern Italy, where it is grown and known as Primitivo. |
