2007 INNISFREE CABERNET SAUVIGNON
If you are a Cab lover and hate paying through the nose to get one with high ratings, look no further. Produced by Joseph Phelps, this is more sweet fruit in style with cherry, raspberry and vanilla, nicely concentrated with layers of milk chocolate and fresh brewed coffee. The tannins are soft which make for an easy drinking red that won't weigh you down during the hot Summer months.
2006 SHINAS"THE VERDICT" CABERNET SAUVIGNON All rise, wine court is now in session. I state my case that this is one of my top 3 Cabernet's under $20 that I have put into my cellar this year. It's big, ripe and rich dark plum fruit comes from extended hang time on the vine, while the dark chocolate and vanilla flavors blend well with it's silky oak texture. From the relatively unknown Mildura region in northwest Victoria, Australia, this small production boutique wine is a crime not to be tasted. The jury is out, the verdict is in, it's one good guilty pleasure. You be the judge.
2007 HARASZTHY AMADOR ZINFANDEL What do you get when you cross some great old vine Zinfandel grapes with a 6th generation winemaker? Magic in a bottle. Huge dark spicy berries marry with a splash of nutmeg, white pepper, espresso and tobacco, with a long powerful finish. A bit hot at first from it's 15.6% alcohol, but with a little time in the decanter, all will be well. Throw down some ribs, a few steaks and various sausages on the grill, uncork the genie out of the bottle, and your zinful
tasting wishes will be granted.
2009 CARDWELL HILL PINOT GRIS In Oregon, where it seems that all the focus is on Pinot Noir, they also make some of the best Pinot Gris (the same as Pinot Grigio) on the planet. Dan and Nancy Chapel produce one of the state's highly acclaimed and award winning Pinot Gris, loaded with Granny Smith apple, grapefruit, lemon grass, butterscotch, a flinty minerality, pale straw in color, with an intoxicating floral aroma. More dry in style, yet a perfect companion to a Summer salad, sea food, or beer can chicken.

DID YOU KNOW..................that Agoston Haraszthy, who first started the Buena Vista Winery in 1857, brought over 100,000 vine cuttings from Europe to California back in 1861. The California legislature never paid him for his efforts, a broken promise that bankrupted the father of the California wine industry.
WINE TRIVIA..................Where did "toasting" originate? The clinking of glasses and a wish to your good health started in ancient Rome, where a piece of toasted bread was dropped into a glass of wine. For practical reasons, it was to assure all guests that the wine was not poisoned and fit for consumption. |
