2009 CHATEAU DUCASSE
A blend of old world Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon, this Bordeaux white hits the palate crisp and clean with subtle grapefruit, pear and citrus aromas. It's bright acidity makes it a perfect wine to open on the patio on a hot Summer's evening. It's stamp of affordable quality is assured by being a Kermit Lynch selection, the guru of many great French imports.
2007 THURSTON WOLFE LEMBERGER The popular grape varietal known as Blaufrankisch in Austria and Hungary is making a quiet splash here in the states in the form of Lemberger, not to be confused with the familiar sounding stinky cheese Limburger. Out of the Horse Heaven Hills area of Washington State, this full bodied red explodes with cherry, raspberry and red currant fruit, complimented by vanilla, black pepper, a hint of chocolate and a bright floral nose and finish. A great bargain for those looking to drink something new, something different and definitely something unique.
2008 THE BOHAN-DILLON PINOT NOIR As they say, it's always the quiet ones you have to look out for. Sonoma winemaker David Hirsch may not generate headlines like the corporate giants but his focus on small production and enormous quality makes his wines front page news. We are rewarded with this Pinot Noir, showcasing meaty plum, cherry and cola flavors, with exotic spice, leather, tea and tobacco accents. With so many choices these days of high quality Pinot Noir's, exciting and noteworthy make this one marquee material.
2005 CHATEAU BARRAIL CHEVROL
This Petite Bordeaux from the Fronsac region of France finds a way to keep getting better and better with each new vintage. A blend of 80% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Cabernet Franc, it shows dark ripe fruit, an intoxicating bouquet, with a light spice and smoky character, all done in a modern style, that makes it very food friendly. Very approachable now, but with a few extra years in the cellar, this wine will not only show great style and charm, but also what a savvy and knowledgeable wine shopper you can be. |
