22007 PATRICIA GREEN OLD VINE PINOT NOIR
Among the 12 different bottling's of Pinot Noir from this Oregon estate, it's hard to say which one is the best. But rest assured, this Old Vine sampling would rank near the top. With a huge concentration of dark sweet fruit, it's hard to get past the wonderful fragrance that jumps out of the glass. Floral scents and spice dominate on the nose yet the depth of flavors that explode on the palate are heavenly. Glorious enough to savor today, it is also a keeper for the long run in your cellar.
2006 NEIL ELLIS PINOTAGE
Wine lover's seem to have a love/hate relationship when it comes to Pinotage. It possesses a unique character of flavors atypical of South African offerings. In the hands of a first class winemaker such as Neil Ellis, sheer magic awaits with dark plum, fig and cherry fruit, a rustic aroma of tobacco and bacon fat, all with a gripping mushroom earthiness that excites the senses. Paired with grilled lamb or a hearty steak, you may come away with a new found appreciation for this tasty gem.
2007 QUPE BIEN NACIDO CUVEE
White wine and Springtime warmth, what could be better. Deciding between a crisp chardonnay or a creamy viognier could be the conundrum. Don't sweat: have both. This blend of 50% chard and 50% viognier always get's my palate to dance with joy with it's combination of apple's, peaches, melon, lemon, licorice, and violets. Elegant and aromatic, balanced and refreshing, just like a breath of fresh air.
2006 CLIFF LEDE CABERNET SAUVIGNON
There seems to be as many choices of California Cabernet as there are fish in the sea. Reeling in the great one's is an even tougher task without emptying your pocketbook along the journey. At a modest price and incredible quality, this small production Stag's Leap District cab is a whale of a find. With dark cherry and raspberry fruit, exotic spice, leather and silky tannins, it takes awhile for your senses to catch up to all the rich flavors that take time to unfold from this intense blockbuster. This wine is so outstanding, you may want to mount the empty bottle on your wall as a trophy. A great catch. |

DID YOU KNOW.................... that German producer Schloss Johannisberg hosts the oldest Riesling vines in the world, first planted in 1720. The winery dates back to 768AD when their first harvest yielded a mere 6 liters of wine. This property is so renowned, it was once purchased by Napoleon in 1806.
WINE TRIVIA..................... In the 1850's, which State produced the most wine? That would be North Carolina. At the time, they grew more wine grapes, mostly Concord, than all the other States combined. |
