2005 Chateau Barrail Chevrol
From the Fronsac region of Bordeaux, this blend of 80% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon rates very high on my Wine-o-Meter, not only for it's wonderful flavors, but also for it's under $15.00 value. Sweet chocolate mousse, cherry and plum fruit dominate up front, with hints of leather and toast on the finish. The perfect choice to serve with any entree or on it's own as a casual sipper. With the high price tags on many 2005 Bordeaux's this should be a no brainer for the cost conscience consumer.
2003 Chateau de Lascaux Coteaux du Languedoc
This wine reminds me of the many simple village wines that are brought to your table in most European restaurants when you order the resident "House Red". Most often, these wines reflect the local culinary delights the chef has to offer, they are inexpensive, they are so delicious, and more often than not, they are the wines that are most memorable. Offering the juiciness of a Syrah, the softness of a Merlot, and the vibrancy it's nuances has to offer when paired with simple peasant fare or barbeque. At a cost of under $10 it makes you feel like the Euro is back at par with your almighty dollar.
2005 Murrietas Well Meritage White
Swinging in a hammock, listening to Beethoven's 9th symphony on a warm sunny day, what a perfect summer quaffer to make you feel like the King of the Castle. Crisp citrus, melon, butterscotch and vanilla flavors explode on the palate, with a subtle richness and creamy texture that is sure to please. Another standout from the Karl Wente portfolio in the Livermore region of California, this blend of Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc will leave you feeling regal, royal and palately refreshed.
2005 Ojai Pinot Noir Bien Nacido Vineyard
One swirl and sniff of the aromatic gem is only the start of a love affair with this big brawny Pinot. Culled from small yields from one of the most notable vineyards that represents quality and excellence, cherry, raspberry, cola, and chocolate licorice coat the palate while white pepper, caramel and dusty tannins finish off each sip in a most satisfying manner. Serve with roasted duck, asiago risotto, and grilled asparagus for one memorable meal.
