Greetings!
Warm wishes from Texas Discovery Gardens!
Here's a cold weather tip from Randy Johnson, our Director of Horticulture: The single most important thing to do before you reach freezing temperatures is to ... water! Make sure your landscape and all container-grown plants are thoroughly watered prior to the freeze. This 'seals' the soil by filling all pore-space with water, and it actually impedes the entry of that cold, freezing air into the root-zone ... THAT is what will kill plants. Protecting roots is key to winter survival, that and selecting plants appropriate for this region. After all, a well-watered orchid kept outside will freeze no matter what you do.
If you're still looking for holiday gift ideas, we have gift cards available for admission or in the gift shop! Our reduced price $45 family memberships also make a great present. Call (214) 428-7476 x 341, visit TexasDiscoveryGardens.org, or stop by to purchase.

Inside the Butterfly House: Enjoy whimsical papier-mâché bugs and ceramics by Dan and Lori Dudley with Dirt on your Skirt Studio. These pieces start moving out on Wednesday, so it's your last chance to see them in our tropical environment!
In the Gallery: Texas Discovery Gardens' fall and winter exhibition by Silvia Thornton and Anne Neal blends natural elements and the artistic process. "The Nature of Art" plays with the broad theme through different uses of encaustic (beeswax and pigment) and fused glass, among other media.
Our exhibitions are curated by Janet Reynolds.
